The trade-off

I would include this here because its quite a big shift for me and the project especially how i think about online freelancing.

So just a little update.

Not a day has passed when i made the starting page for this blog. The city had an earthquake and school was cancelled for some students that include my sista.

Its funny because i just got home after a wasted interview.

I dont know why but i just have to go out more often because i promised i would deliver to my family and so going to interviews even if theyre low paying jobs or whatever is enough for a good reason to go out.

I dont need a lot anyways.

I just needed to launch my app and start from there.

So little by little and day by day until yesterday. I was job hunting.

I was going through stuff that i need to prepare when my app launch right, i was thinking maybe later at night i would job hunt and apply more to local jobs.

Then unexpected happens. I saw that someone is really keen to make their website faster or more optimized. Hes been on my inbox for at least 2 days. Then this day he mentioned his site and we go from there.

We moved from reddit to discord and talked there, what our plan. Then i suggested he install a plugin that would let him control the permission of the log in users on his site and so he did he just gave me enough permission to work on his site.

The day unfolds and i finished it and the results i send him was staggering his site went from 8.8 seconds to loading on 2 seconds but guess what it has a problem not that it doesnt load the images, it does. Tho thats not where im going with this so ill just proceed with the story instead.

He said it was 6 am on their time already and he was already heading to bed, he would check it tomorrow but along the conversation he was also asking if i do customized websites and stuff.

Looking back im glad that it has a problem lol because if it didnt he couldve just ghosted me. Because tonight while im curling up to watch a movie my charger suddenly made a noise and the laptop alert me that it stopped charging.

I panicked the moment i tried switching the head of the cable and it still didnt work. Im barely prepared that it would come at this time. Where im freaking uncertain what to do. Man i thought if hes just going to ghost me ill just to have to find another way. Im still preparing to launch the app anyways.

Oh and when i turn on the lights after being in the movie for only like 20 minutes my freaking midnight snack just got spilled in the bed because I'm freaking out, when you look at my scene it's at least nightmarish.

Anyways, going back to this person. I just got another message from him on discord, i forgot to mention i did say i notice a drop in the performance of his site i dont know how it got back to normal but the loading speed is still a bit better from the original.

But anyways one thing leads to the other as i told him i cant turn back my computer on because my charger broke yesterday. I guess that made him a fatherly figure for once? lol i thought he would just run away tho i might be wrong.

I wasnt expecting this anymore but here it was.

This was my first time receiving money from a stranger online and using paypal, well im using paypal for the app for development not this kind of transaction which is what paypal is primarily meant for.

It was so fun earlier this day. If i wrote this just hours earlier i wouldve screamed so much.

But now i know the trade-off i lost the charger. And its brick was the fault not the cable i bought a cable today and it works. and man was the brick is more expensive than what i received but i know this is going to happen soon and i wasnt expecting that the brick would be faultier since the cable looks more wear but hey you never know whats inside until you look at it. including people right? right? i mean its a metaphor dont become a surgeon just to open people literally.

I am also still receiving emails like this from indiehacker since i made that post a long time ago. Oh man i might have to remove it because it discloses my idea to everyone especially founders but hey theyre not investors theyre mostly bootstrap founders and technical people who has something of their own to be busy so i dont mind a few people reading it and giving me COMPLIMENTS tho this one i dont need someone to adjust the margin lol tho thanks ill just send him an email later.

Oh yes btw i was able to start my laptop again but with a slower phone charger, it just helps the battery drain slower when in use.

That was the day. That was it; this story. Money came and my charger begone. But hey i can use the money to pay for my dev account which ill do. This event actually made my outlook on online freelancing brighter because now i have empirical evidence that it could work.

I made that much money you saw within a day. That is still a lot compared to the majority rates of the job here on the philippines. But hey its quite rare its not everyday, the timing,skills and the trust you build with people are your real assets here.The post where that client saw was just few days ago. Though clients online wouldnt come consistently so what am i saying.

Also i didnt say i work with wordpress this was a surprise for me as i remember i thought before that i would just become a self taught writer or psychologist or psychiatrist. I would study these stuff before and talk about it on my own way not the academic way? maybe? largely not; i didnt change much back then. I thought i would become successful jus by writing or building a community online or a just making a website with a good idea then afterwards i can build other stuff thats all i thought of how i would become successful.

Turned out life has other plans.
